FinOps Analyst
Job Description
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong engineering foundation (e.g., former System Administrator, DevOps, QA Automation, or Technical Support Engineer)
- Practical experience with AWS cost tracking tools including AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and Cost and Usage Report (CUR)
- Deep understanding of core AWS services (EC2, EKS/ECS, RDS, S3, Networking) and their billing mechanisms
- Proficiency in data manipulation and writing custom SQL queries to analyze granular spending data
- Excellent communication skills to translate complex cloud metrics into actionable insights for technical and business stakeholders
Preferred
- Experience with ClickHouse and dbt (Data Build Tool) for building custom billing pipelines
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Athena for deep dives into raw AWS CUR data
- Background in regulated FinTech or SaaS environments with knowledge of PCI DSS compliance
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and analyze monthly AWS billing data to identify cost spikes, anomalies, and architectural inefficiencies
- Develop and maintain a strict global resource tagging policy to allocate costs by environment, business unit, and component
- Proactively manage AWS Savings Plans and Reserved Instances (RIs) to maximize discounts
- Drive optimization initiatives, such as identifying orphaned resources and right-sizing idle environments, in collaboration with DevOps
- Map infrastructure hosting costs to product revenue to evaluate long-term product profitability
