REQUIREMENTS

• Proven bookkeeping experience with small or e-commerce businesses
• Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks
• Strong understanding of GAAP and double-entry bookkeeping
• Experience with bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Hands-on experience with Illinois sales tax filings
• Shopify accounting experience strongly preferred
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and update the general ledger in QuickBooks
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
• Reconcile Shopify sales, payouts, refunds, fees, and taxes
• Prepare and file Illinois sales tax returns
• Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Prepare journal entries and ensure proper use of debits and credits
• Conduct balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
• Identify discrepancies and resolve or flag issues promptly
• Prepare clear monthly financial summaries and basic reports
• Support year-end preparation and coordinate with an external accountant
