Associate Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
REQUIREMENTS
- Previous work experience or an internship in mechanical engineering
- Familiarity between electrical systems and equipment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for technical tables and Microsoft Word
- Practical knowledge of material science and metallurgy
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
- Organized and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines with guidance
- Self-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide mechanical design and analysis for electrical power system components
- Develop and contribute to specifications for electrical and substation equipment, including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, bus systems, and motor control centers
- Create 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical project components like sheet metal, insulation, and busbars
- Prepare drawing packages and installation plans for equipment replacement, repairs, upgrades, and modifications
- Coordinate designs with customers, manufacturing, and field teams to optimize cost, constructability, and installation
- Specify and procure hardware and specialty components from vendors
- Review site drawings, documentation, and photos to recommend design improvements
- Ensure designs meet industry standards, ratings, and customer specifications, including materials, clearances, BIL ratings, and busbar sizing
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to define responsibilities and scope between teams
- Travel to jobsites to gather data, support installation, and assist with commissioning
- Provide technical expertise and field support during installation and troubleshooting
- Maintain awareness of electrical hazards and follow safe work practices around energized equipment
