REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with DC building permit processes and familiarity with Department of Buildings procedures
  • Proficiency with DC’s electronic plan review and permitting systems
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple applications simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to interpret regulatory requirements
  • Self-directed with ability to work independently

Preferred

  • Prior experience working in or with DC government agencies (DOB, DCRA, OP, DDOT, DC Health)
  • Knowledge of DC Construction Codes and zoning regulations
  • Background in construction management, architecture, or related field
  • ICC Permit Technician certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, submit, and track building permit applications through DC’s online permitting systems (ProjectDox, SCOUT)
  • Coordinate with the Department of Buildings (DOB) and other District agencies to facilitate permit approvals
  • Monitor application status, respond to reviewer comments, and resolve deficiencies promptly
  • Maintain organized records of permits, submissions, and approval documentation
  • Review project documents for completeness before submission
  • Track permit expiration dates and coordinate renewals as needed
  • Communicate permit status and requirements to project teams and clients
  • Stay current on DC construction codes, zoning regulations, and permitting procedures
