Senior Permitting & Plan Review Expert

Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in permitting, plan review, plans examination, or code consulting
• Strong understanding of building codes and their practical application
• Extensive experience reviewing construction documents, plan sets, and submittal packages
• Ability to explain complex technical codes to non-experts, including engineers and product managers
• Strong written communication and documentation skills
• Comfort providing direct, specific feedback on software-generated outputs

Preferred

• ICC certifications (e.g., Building Plans Examiner, Residential/Commercial Plans Examiner, or Certified Building Official)
• Experience across multiple jurisdictions or high-volume markets like California, Florida, or Texas
• Expertise in specific permit types such as residential, commercial, solar, MEP, or zoning
• Professional credentials such as PE, RA, CBO, or CASp
• Experience managing reviewers or creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a domain expert to help engineering, product, and design teams understand permitting and building code interpretation
• Review permit applications, plan sets, and AI-generated outputs to identify accuracy, omissions, or ambiguities
• Label applications and review examples to train and evaluate machine learning systems
• Synthesize jurisdiction-specific requirements and local amendments into clear internal guidance
• Help define approval/rejection criteria and create internal review rubrics and checklists
• Support product discovery, customer conversations, and go-to-market efforts as a subject matter expert
