Job Description
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience in medical billing with a focus on mental health services or behavioral health settings.
- Strong knowledge of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical terminology relevant to mental health care.
- Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems used for clinical documentation and billing purposes.
- Experience with medical collection procedures and managing accounts receivable effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate coding and claim submission.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations related to medical records management and privacy standards such as HIPAA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and interpret clinical documentation to ensure accurate coding using DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes.
- Submit clean claims electronically through EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems, ensuring compliance with payer requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by investigating issues related to medical coding, billing errors, or missing information, and initiate appropriate collections procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, and collections within secure medical records systems.
- Collaborate with mental health practitioners to clarify documentation for proper coding and billing accuracy.
- Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting mental health billing practices.
- Assist in training staff on ICD coding updates, CPT procedures, and best practices for medical billing and collections.
- Ensure adherence to confidentiality standards and HIPAA regulations throughout all billing processes.
