Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
  • Proven experience underwriting: Conventional loans, FHA loans, VA loans, USDA loans
  • DE/CHUMS designation required.
  • SAR/LAPP designation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of agency, investor, and regulatory underwriting guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of self-employed borrower analysis and complex tax return review.
  • General banking and mortgage lending knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all company policies and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct thorough reviews of residential mortgage loan files to ensure compliance with company, investor, and government underwriting guidelines.
  • Evaluate complete credit packages and collateral documentation to ensure delivery of investor-quality loan products.
  • Analyze borrower risk factors and make sound underwriting decisions, including approvals, suspenses, and denials.
  • Calculate income and debt ratios in accordance with Dodd-Frank Appendix Q and investor requirements.
  • Analyze a wide range of income types
  • Review and analyze complex federal tax returns and self-employed borrower income utilizing FNMA Form 1084.
  • Review asset documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with investor guidelines.
  • Evaluate credit reports, flood certifications, hazard insurance policies, purchase contracts, title reports, and other supporting loan documentation.
  • Review and analyze appraisal reports
  • Identify potential red flags, inconsistencies, and fraud indicators within loan files.
  • Accurately enter loan data into the loan origination system and ensure required disclosures and documentation are complete.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to all appropriate parties.
  • Issue underwriting conditions, review submitted documentation, and clear conditions in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance on underwriting guidelines through the Underwriting Hotline as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of loan products, investor requirements, and regulatory changes.
  • Operate effectively in a paperless environment.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and timely support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all federal and state regulations, company policies, confidentiality requirements, and security protocols.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
