Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Field Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of turbomachinery and rotating equipment.
  • Metrology Expert: Must have at least 3 years of hands-on, practical experience utilizing laser metrology devices (such as laser trackers).
  • Project Management: Proven, hands-on experience in project management.

Technical Knowledge & Aptitudes

  • Engineering Aptitude: Strong mechanical and thermodynamic aptitude for rotating machinery, alongside a profound knowledge of electrical and digital systems.
  • Product Expertise: Expert knowledge of Elliott product specifications and features—including design/manufacturing principles and operational processes—as well as those of similar equipment manufacturers.
  • Industry Standards: Expert understanding of industry-related standards, industry practices, and system processes encountered in heavy industry.
  • Documentation Literacy: Ability to read and understand drawings, technical documentation, blueprints, layouts, and schedules, alongside the ability to write professional technical documents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Execution & Site Management

  • Supervision & Control: Supervises, directs, and controls our client’s staff, customer personnel, and hired contract labor in the start-up, repair, maintenance, or overhaul of equipment.
  • Site Leadership: Acts in a Site Manager capacity while directing field work on our client’s equipment as well as on non-Elliott equipment.
  • Advanced Metrology: Utilizes hands-on practical experience with laser metrology devices, such as laser trackers, to ensure precise alignment and measurement specifications.
  • Technical Preparation: Performs the technical job preparation, engineering planning, and issues work method statements for field projects.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Conducts investigations of product trouble, including customer product trouble or complaints and thermodynamic/mechanical performance problems. Takes corrective action as directed or works with the Field Service Manager while selling the solution both to the customer and within our client’s.
  • Independent Judgment: May exercise independent judgment and execute corrective action plans depending on the nature of the trouble and the availability of communication lines.
  • Team Support: Provides technical direction and assists Field Service personnel on other assignments as directed.
  • Experimental Programs: Conducts experimental programs for the development of modifications to field equipment.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • EHS Leadership: Ensures all work is performed in a safe manner to prevent injury to personnel or equipment, ensuring that safety, quality, and schedules are strictly obtained.
  • System Adherence: Adheres to instructions and guidelines as described in the quality and Environmental Health Safety (EHS) management systems.
  • Hazard Mitigation: Performs safety planning and detailing on major projects, including performing hazard identification and mitigation for all tasks being performed as part of job responsibilities.
  • Toolbox Talks: Prepares and gives daily toolbox talks to site crews.

Project Management & Commercial Support

  • Financial Management: Forecasts project requirements, schedules expenditures, minimizes costs, and analyzes variances.
  • Commercial Aptitude: Assists in the quotation process and invoicing content for major projects that affect the profitability of business decisions.
  • Cost Mitigation: Keeps installation back charges from customers and/or mechanical contractors to a minimum through good judgment and prompt action.
  • Local Purchasing: Responsible for managing local purchasing requirements while on-site.
  • Business Development: Makes customer courtesy calls to check inventories, promote the sale of parts, inspect new shipments, and sell services in conjunction with the Service Sales Engineer.

Communication, Reporting & Training

  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicates with the Field Service Manager and Support Engineers promptly and thoroughly, informing them of all work performed, quality, performance, and equipment problems, the customer’s reaction to the equipment, and future sales potential.
  • Service Reporting: Issues comprehensive Service Reports within two weeks of customer job completion, explicitly noting particular instances with dates and names of persons connected with the services performed on the job.
  • R&D Input: Provides direct input into Product Engineering and design, contributing new ideas to improve product design and appearance, enhance company service, and eliminate troubles.
  • Training & Mentorship: Provides technical training to the customer’s personnel as well as our own internal personnel; possesses the ability to lead discussions in training classes and meetings.
