Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Significant experience in nonprofit fundraising, advancement, campaign management, or fundraising consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience with major gifts, capital campaigns, campaign planning, donor strategy, or development leadership
  • Ability to advise nonprofit executives, development staff, and board members
  • Strong writing, presentation, facilitation, and client communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects at once
  • Comfort working remotely and independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for client meetings, board sessions, campaign work, and retreats
  • Residence within reasonable distance of a commercial airport
  • Access to reliable transportation, a professional remote work setup, strong internet, and a high-quality video meeting environment

Preferred

  • CFRE credential or willingness to earn/maintain CFRE certification
  • Experience working with healthcare, hospice, human service, education, or community-based nonprofits
  • Experience serving as a Development Director, Chief Development Officer, Foundation Executive Director, campaign consultant, or senior advancement leader
  • Experience facilitating board meetings, campaign committees, retreats, or donor strategy sessions
  • Familiarity with donor databases, prospect pipelines, gift charts, campaign reporting, and fundraising dashboards
  • Prior consulting experience or demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently

RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Strategy and Consulting

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 4–6 full-service nonprofit clients
  • Lead client strategy calls, campaign planning meetings, board sessions, and donor pipeline reviews
  • Conduct feasibility studies, opportunity assessments, campaign readiness assessments, and major gift strategy engagements
  • Help clients identify, prioritize, and move major gift prospects toward meaningful asks
  • Develop practical campaign plans, donor engagement strategies, board engagement plans, and fundraising timelines
  • Review client fundraising systems, staffing, board structure, donor data, and revenue performance to identify gaps and opportunities
  • Prepare clear recommendations and manage clients week-to-week

Campaign and Major Gift Work

  • Support clients through capital campaigns, comprehensive campaigns, major gift initiatives, and special fundraising projects, typically ranging $3M-$50M
  • Help establish campaign goals, gift charts, prospect lists, cultivation plans, solicitation strategies, and volunteer structures
  • Coach CEOs, development staff, board members, and campaign volunteers on donor strategy and next steps
  • Ensure client work consistently moves toward measurable fundraising outcomes to report to client leadership

Client Communication and Relationship Management

  • Maintain consistent, clear, and timely communication with clients
  • Set expectations, manage timelines, and keep projects moving
  • Prepare agendas, meeting notes, recommendations, and follow-up materials.
  • Build trust with client leadership while still being direct about gaps, risks, and underperformance
  • Escalate client concerns internally before they become retention problems

Internal Contribution

  • Contribute to our client’s internal systems, templates, training materials, and standard operating procedures
  • Support occasional webinars, educational content, speaking preparation, and client-facing resources
  • Participate in team strategy discussions and help improve service delivery across the firm
  • Share useful insights from client work that can improve our client’s methodology, sales process, or consulting model
