Job Description
REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency in payroll management systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, Kronos, UltiPro, PeopleSoft or Ceridian is essential.
- Strong understanding of accounting software including QuickBooks and other financial tools used for bookkeeping and reconciliation.
- Extensive knowledge of corporate accounting principles including general ledger accounting, debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation.
- Familiarity with human resources information systems (HRIS) for benefits administration and employee data management.
- Experience with governmental accounting standards and non-profit accounting practices when applicable.
- Excellent analysis skills to interpret financial data accurately; ability to perform detailed account reconciliation and financial analysis.
- Technical expertise in tax regulations related to payroll processing; experience managing tax filings is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with high proficiency in data entry (10 key typing skills) and double entry bookkeeping methods.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments including HR and finance teams; ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly.
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing using systems such as Workday, ADP, Paychex, UltiPro, Kronos, PeopleSoft, Ceridian, or other payroll software.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations; prepare and file necessary reports.
- Manage data entry related to payroll transactions including hours worked, benefits deductions, taxes, and other adjustments.
- Reconcile payroll accounts regularly through general ledger accounting practices; perform account reconciliation to verify accuracy.
- Collaborate with HR to administer employee benefits programs and handle inquiries regarding payroll discrepancies or benefits administration.
- Maintain detailed records of payroll transactions, journal entries, and audit trails for internal review and external audits.
- Lead process improvements by analyzing payroll workflows and implementing automation or system upgrades to enhance efficiency.
- Support non-profit accounting requirements when applicable; manage accounts payable/receivable related to payroll expenses.
- Assist in tax experience management by ensuring proper withholding, reporting, and remittance of payroll taxes.
- Conduct regular analysis of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors; perform double entry bookkeeping for accuracy.
