Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Curriculum Development, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of elementary mathematics instruction (PK–5 preferred)
  • Experience with curriculum design or instructional design
  • Knowledge of learning progressions and prerequisite skills
  • Ability to write clearly and precisely
  • Strong organizational and systems-thinking skills

Preferred

  • Experience with standards-based curriculum development
  • Familiarity with research-based math instruction
  • Experience creating instructional guidance or teacher-facing documentation
  • Experience working with digital, adaptive learning products
  • Curriculum gaps and redundancies are identified early

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Granular Learning Objective Sequences

  • Break broad mathematical topics into highly specific learning objectives (LOs)
  • Design prerequisite-aligned skill progressions
  • Ensure sequences align with standards, research, and developmental readiness
  • Identify appropriate instructional groupings (chapters, lessons, subskills)
  • Refine scope to ensure each LO measures a single teachable skill

Develop Instructional Notes for Script Designers

  • Provide instructional guidance for teaching each LO
  • Identify:
  • Recommended models and strategies
  • Common misconceptions
  • Suggested vocabulary and representations
  • Instructional focus points
  • Clarify what should and should not be taught within the LO scope
  • Ensure notes support clear, student-friendly instruction

Develop Problem Design Notes

  • Provide guidance for assessment and practice design
  • Define:
  • Dataset constraints
  • Appropriate representations and visuals
  • Acceptable problem types
  • Interaction expectations
  • Cognitive load considerations
  • Ensure problems align directly to the instructional intent

Research & Curriculum Alignment

  • Review standards, curricula, and research to guide sequencing decisions
  • Analyze progression expectations across grade levels
  • Ensure alignment to instructional best practices and learning trajectories
  • Support consistency across the curriculum system

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with:
  • Director
  • Content Manager
  • LO Lead
  • Instructional Leads
  • Problem Leads
  • Clarify instructional intent during production
  • Support alignment between teaching and assessment

Continuous Improvement

  • Revise sequences and notes based on:
  • QA findings
  • Efficacy data
  • Production feedback
  • Student performance trends
  • Identify gaps or redundancies in the curriculum
