Job Description

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience developing budgets, analyzing resource requirements, negotiating contracts, or managing complex service-based projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate operational requirements and translate them into financial models and budgets.
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring staff, or building operational processes.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools including AI.
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical research, consulting, professional services, or related industries preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Development & Review

  • Develop and/or review study budgets for Phase I-III clinical trials.
  • Ensure budgets accurately reflect site effort, staffing requirements, patient burden, and study complexity.
  • Support development of budget assumptions and pricing methodologies.

Budget Negotiation Support

  • Lead or support negotiations with sponsors and CROs.
  • Review sponsor budget offers and identify opportunities for improved reimbursement. Provide justification as needed.
  • Provide guidance on payment terms.
  • Serve as an escalation point for the existing members of the contracts and budget team.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the existing budget team.
  • Assist with training and professional development.
  • Help build a scalable budgeting function capable of supporting continued organizational growth.

Operational Analysis

  • Evaluate budget-to-actual performance and identify areas of under-recovery while the study is underway.
  • Analyze operational activities that impact study profitability, including recruitment efforts, retention activities, screen failures, protocol amendments, and unscheduled visits.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to improve future budget assumptions and negotiations.

Process Improvement

  • Standardize budgeting templates and methodologies.
  • Improve consistency, efficiency, and documentation within the budgeting process.
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards that support operational decision-making.
  • Recommend process enhancements that improve turnaround times and overall quality.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Clinical Operations, Recruitment, Finance, and Business Development teams.
  • Support feasibility assessments and study startup activities as needed.
